BIO

In Siona Snel’s work, the exploration of material, layering, and form takes center stage. She works primarily in mixed media, combining paint, paper, textiles, and found objects. Natural materials play a vital role in her visual language, their texture, impermanence, and purity contribute to the atmosphere and meaning within her compositions. Each material carries its own history and significance, and it is in the encounter between these layers that her works come to life.

Snel’s art often moves within the realm of abstraction, where suggestion and emotion speak more powerfully than literal representation. Recurring themes include nature, memory, and the traces left by time. Her process is intuitive and guided by contrast, fragile yet strong, transparent yet opaque, fleeting yet enduring. The balance between chance and intention is an essential element of her creative approach.

Her work invites the viewer to come closer, to observe the details and subtle imperfections that reveal themselves upon repeated looking. Ultimately, Siona Snel seeks to create a harmony between the tangible qualities of material and the unseen layers of emotion, memory, and imagination.
